Viewing Platforms at Park Beach and Carlton Beach

Sorell Council has received funding from the Department of State Growth to construct new viewing platforms at Park Beach and Carlton Beach.

You may remember seeing a post on our social pages late last year about proposed viewing platforms for these locations.

Since then, work has continued behind the scenes, including the development of designs for both sites, and Council is now pleased to share this information with the community.

The new viewing platforms will provide improved opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy our beautiful coastline.

The designs have been developed with the coastal environment in mind, using durable, low-maintenance materials including stainless steel framing and non-slip grating. These materials have been selected for their strength, safety, and suitability for long-term exposure to coastal conditions.

A CoastSnap monitoring point will be installed at Carlton Beach to help capture and track changes in sand movement over time at the river entrance.

We know there has been community interest in parking and access at these locations. However, this was not included in the scope of the funding for this project. Council is aware of this feedback and it will be considered in future infrastructure planning.

To help provide context, we have also included an example of a similar viewing platform used in Tasmania. This has helped inform the design approach and provide an indication of the style and quality of structure planned for Park Beach and Carlton Beach.

We’re really excited to be bringing this project to life and delivering new viewing platforms for Park Beach and Carlton Beach.

We welcome any feedback or questions from the community as we share this information. Feedback received to date has been considered and incorporated where it aligns with the project scope; however, as the project is funded through a specific funding arrangement, there are limits to how much feedback can be incorporated into the design. This stage is really about keeping the community informed and providing a clear understanding of the project.
