Councillors

Council consists of elected members, known as Councillors, who are democratically elected by the residents and ratepayers in the Sorell Municipality. Sorell Council has nine Councillors, including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The term of office of Councillors is four years.

Councillors are responsible for reviewing, debating and making decisions about issues that are brought before Council. Councillors swear an Oath to carry out this role impartially, to the best of their ability, and in the best interests of the community. Divisions 2 and 3 of the Local Government Act 1993 further outline the role of Council and Councillors.
