Reserve Management Plans – Community Consultation (Closed)

Council is working with a consultant (North Barker Ecosystems Services) to develop Management Plans for five of our reserves in the Southern Beaches area. These include Dodges Ferry Recreation Reserve, Parnella Reserve, Payeena Reserve, Bally Park Reserve and Samuel Thorne Reserve.

Council is also updating the Fire Management Plan for Dodges Ferry Recreation Reserve.

Why Reserve Management Plans are important

A Reserve Management Plan bring together all of the information known about the reserve including what plants and animals can be found there (through a natural values assessment) and the history of the site. From this information, a Reserve Management Plan is developed which outlines the goals, objectives, and strategies for the effective management and conservation of the specific reserve into the future.

Engagement with our local stakeholders, including local communities, Indigenous groups, government agencies, and NGOs is very important. We are committed to weaving their perspectives and experiences into the core of the Reserve Management Plans.

Community consultation (closed)

*Thank you to everyone who contributed feedback on the Reserve Management Plans.*

Community input is an important part of the development of the management plans and we welcome your feedback and thoughts.

An initial community forum was held on Friday 10 November 2023 and we invited online feedback over a 4 week period. This feedback was collated and sent to North Barker for consideration and inclusion in developing the Draft Reserve Management Plans.

Copies of the Draft Plans are now available for the next round of community feedback including summary versions of each and a quick reference document – Reserve Management Plans on a Page Summary.  Please use the feedback form below or email: sorell.council@sorell.tas.gov.au by 17 July 2024.

Council will also be holding a Community Information Session with a presentation by North Barker prior to inviting questions from community. Details are:
