Natural Resource Management Advisory Group (NRMAG)
The Natural Resource Management Advisory Group (NRMAG) provides Sorell Council with advice and recommendations on natural resource management, environmental sustainability and related issues across the Sorell municipality.
The group brings together people with a range of knowledge, skills and experience to help Council consider environmental priorities and support positive outcomes for our community and environment.
What does the NRMAG do?
The NRMAG provides advice to Council and supports the implementation of Council’s Natural Resource Management Strategy and broader environmental strategies, policies and activities.
The group considers issues and opportunities including:
- natural resource management
- biodiversity and conservation
- climate change and sustainability
- waterways and water bodies
- landscape and land use management
- invasive species
- environmental and natural assets
- community and stakeholder engagement.
The group’s advice helps Council identify priorities, consider emerging environmental issues and support practical actions that benefit the municipality.
Who is involved?
The NRMAG includes community members with relevant knowledge, skills, experience and an interest in natural resource management and environmental outcomes, along with Councillor representatives.
Membership is selected through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, with applications assessed against the selection criteria outlined in the group’s Terms of Reference.
Getting involved
Council periodically calls for Expressions of Interest when vacancies or opportunities for new members arise.
We welcome people who have knowledge of, or a strong interest in, the environmental, social, cultural and natural values of the Sorell municipality.
Relevant experience or knowledge may include:
- natural resource management and environmental issues
- biodiversity, conservation or land management
- climate change and sustainability
- waterways and water resources
- invasive species
- local environmental, social or cultural values
- community engagement and stakeholder management.
You don’t need to be an environmental professional to contribute. A passion for achieving positive environmental and sustainability outcomes and a willingness to share knowledge and engage with the community are important.

Meetings and information
The NRMAG meets periodically to discuss current and emerging natural resource management and environmental matters.
Group history and recent changes
The group was originally established in September 2023 as the Natural Resource Management / Environmental Advisory Group (NRMEAG).
In August 2026, Council endorsed an updated Terms of Reference for the group. As part of these updates, the group’s name was changed to the Natural Resource Management Advisory Group (NRMAG).
The updated Terms of Reference also provide for staggered membership terms of two and three years. Staggered terms will help provide continuity within the group while allowing for new members and perspectives to be introduced over time.
These changes reflect the ongoing development of the group and its role in providing advice to Council on natural resource management and environmental matters across the Sorell municipality.
