Dunalley Community Hall – Future Management

Sorell Council invites the Dunalley community to have their say on what the future management of your local Hall should be.

A community forum was held at the Dunalley Community Hall on Wednesday 20 September 2023 at 6.30pm. Thank you to the great numbers of Dunalley and surrounds locals who attended, we heard from a range of passionate people.

There is still time to have your say though – you can complete our survey. You’ve got until close of business on Wednesday 4 October to provide your thoughts.
You can also read notes from the forum below:

COMMUNITY FORUM – DUNALLEY FUTURE HALL MANAGEMENT 2023 1.0

Background

For many years, the Dunalley Hall Committee managed the Hall and Sorell Council commends their hard work and level of service provided over that time.

Over the last 12 months, Council has been responsible for managing the Hall to ensure activities undertaken met risk and insurance requirements (e.g. WorkSafe Tasmania legislation). Council manages the Community Hall on a ‘user pays’ basis, which means every user pays the applicable fees and discounts/special deals are not permitted. This provides a transparent, fair and equitable model of operating.

What does the Community want?

Council understands Dunalley is a close and supportive community and the importance of a Community Hall which provides a strong focal point to bring people together. When Council took on the Hall, we also committed to reaching back out to the Community to see if this model was working or if another organisation was interested to take over if able to meet the necessary compliance, risk and/or insurance requirements.

Next steps

You can still provide feedback by completing a survey by 4 October 2023 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GTLCTVD

If a community organisation model is preferred, Council will then need to undertake an Expression of Interest process.

Your feedback and the survey results will inform the report to Council on the outcomes of the consultation with a recommendation for the preferred approach to the future management of the Hall.
