Dodges Ferry Cat Management Project – Project Update

The Dodges Ferry Cat Management Project is moving into its next stage, with Sorell Council working with Ten Lives and local volunteers on practical activities informed by feedback from the community.

Low-cost desexing and microchipping program

A subsidised desexing and microchipping program is available to support local cat owners experiencing genuine financial need.

If your cat is not yet desexed or microchipped, this is a great opportunity to access the subsidised program and help keep your cat safe, identifiable and less likely to contribute to unwanted cat populations.

Humane cat trapping from 14 September

As part of the next stage of the project, Ten Lives and trained local volunteers will undertake humane trapping of stray and feral cats in the Dodges Ferry area from 14 September to 2 October.

Volunteers will be visiting the area during this time and distributing information to local residents and businesses about the project, responsible cat ownership and keeping owned cats safely indoors.

Traps will be checked regularly by trained volunteers to ensure the welfare of any cats caught.

Any cats trapped through the program will be surrendered to Ten Lives for assessment and appropriate care.

If you own a cat, please keep them safely indoors

Residents with owned cats are asked to keep their cats safely indoors while trapping activities are underway.

Please also make sure your cat is microchipped and registered. This is particularly important during the trapping period, as it means owned cats can be identified and returned to their families if they are accidentally trapped.

The project aims to support responsible cat ownership while helping to reduce the impacts of stray and feral cats on local wildlife.
