Help Shape Our Community Cultural Precinct!

Back in 2021, Council brought together a group of local community members to form the Sorell Community Cultural Precinct Reference Committee. These were people with different skills and perspectives, chosen through an Expression of Interest process, to make sure the project reflects what our community wants and needs.

Since then, the committee has met regularly to share ideas and provide feedback. Thanks to their input—and the support of our community—the vision for the Cultural Precinct is now becoming a reality! With funding secured and plans moving forward, this work is more important than ever. We want this space to truly belong to everyone.

The committee has changed a little over the years, and now we’re looking for two more community members to join us.

Expressions of Interest are now open for interested people to apply for membership on Council’s Community Cultural Precinct Reference Committee.

If you’re passionate about making the Cultural Precinct a place for everyone to enjoy, we’d love to hear from you!

The objectives of the Reference Committee are to:

1. Assist in planning for the development of a Community Cultural Precinct that meets the needs of a broad cross-section of community interests.
2. Ensure a range of perspectives are considered, through the exchange of information and ideas.
3. Contribute to the development of an operating model that ensures the Community Cultural Precinct is viable, sustainable and managed in the best interest of the community.
4. Assist in ensuring effective communication between Council, the community and stakeholders.  
5. Encourage broader community interest in the precinct and promote its use for a broad array of activities.

Expressions of Interest will be reviewed in early 2026, and everyone who applies will be notified of the outcome after the assessment process.
