Safety Notice: Calicivirus Baiting Program
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania is conducting a calicivirus baiting program for rabbits under the authority of Sorell Council at this site.
Calicivirus or RHDV is a naturally occurring biological control and is one of the most humane and effective methods of controlling wild rabbit populations. The virus will be introduced on carrot bait following free feeding.
The virus poses no risk to human health or other non-target species, however, there is a risk of an
allergic reaction if handled.
Pet rabbit owners should consult their vet about vaccination against calicivirus.
Virus will be released on following Council owned land:
- Pembroke Park, Sorell
- Soccer Ground 13A Seventh Ave, Dodges Ferry
- Community Hall, 570 Primrose Sands Road, Primrose Sands
- Carlton Bluff, Primrose Sands
- Dunalley Recreational Ground, 53-57 Imlay Street, Dunalley
