Open Space Strategy

About the Sorell Open Space Strategy

The Sorell Council area is one of the fastest growing regions in Tasmania with an annual percentage growth in population of 1.15 percent; second only to Brighton.  With this rapid growth comes increasing pressure on services and infrastructure within the Sorell area, including on recreation and open space areas.

Council has engaged ERA Planning & Environment to undertake an Open Space Strategy to understand how the community uses their parks, walkways and recreation areas; and to plan for the provision of parks and facilities into the future.

Community Consultation

They will be running community engagement sessions during November to get your local knowledge and input on the future of public open space facilities and walkways in your area.

The sessions will run for approximately an hour and a half, commencing with a 30-minute presentation followed by an informal workshop and feedback session.

We’d love you to join us at any of the following sessions:

What will be the next steps?

After the community engagement stage in November 2019, ERA Planning & Environment will prepare a summary of the feedback received. During this stage the Planning team will also be meeting with key stakeholders such as Government departments and community groups, to understand their interest in the project and provide an opportunity for feedback. Following this, further background research will be undertaken to prepare a draft Open Space Strategy which will be provided to Council in the new year for their endorsement.
