Malunna Child Care Centre

Welcome to Malunna Child Care Centre.

Message from the Director
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your family to the Malunna Child Care Centre web page. We are an accredited centre that is sponsored by the Sorell Council. We are a part of Sorell Council Children's Services Program, which also includes, Sorell Vacation Care and Sorell After School Care Programs.
Malunna commenced operation in December 1989, and is licensed for between 32 and 35 children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years of age

Malunna is located approximately 5 minutes from the Hobart Airport and Sorell and 20 minutes from Hobart CBD in Midway Point. The centre caters for children Birth to Five Years.

The professional and friendly team provides a quality child care program developed to meet the needs of the child and the group as a whole. We are committed to providing a comprehensive program that encourages children to grow and develop to their full potential.
We do this by providing a diverse range of opportunities which allow children to practice and fine-tune their skills, whilst encouraging them to take up the challenge to gain new skills.

Staff spend time off the floor each week, evaluating what they have been doing in their rooms and planning new and exciting experiences for the children. We accept and acknowledge children's individuality and special needs and the program allows children to develop at their own pace.

Meal time at Malunna
Lunch & Snacks

The centre provides nutritious meals including morning and afternoon teas and lunch. The cost of these meals are included in the centres fees. We cater for all childrens' dietary needs and provide half the recommended daily intake of each food group.

Our kitchen and kitchen staff are accredited under the Foodsafe program and undergo regular food safety training.

The centre has received the Start Right-Eat Right Award as part of the Tastebuds program.

Sun Smart

Malunna has received a Sunsmart Award from the Cancer Council and has a comprehensive Sun and Weather Protection Policy.

Pre-Kinder Program

Our goal at pre-kinder is to help prepare children for their first year at school. The sessions are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

During these sessions, the children will experience a range of small and large group activities complemented by structured and free choice activities.

Children also have the opportunity to attend excursions to local Kindergartens and schools, different community events and services.

We aim to encourage the children to be independent, responsible and social and most of all to have lots of fun.

B Happy Program

Sorell Council's B HAPPY project was launched in 19 March 2008.  The program engages 3-5 year olds from the Centre and in a variety of age appropriate activities focusing on nutrition, physical activity and wellbeing.  Activities include sessions run by council staff, specialist guest deliverers and excursions within and beyond the Sorell community.  This project is an extension of the Council's existing Healthy Intervention Program currently catering for 5 - 18 year olds through the following projects B+ve (5-12 year olds), BINFORMED (13-18 year olds) and B READY (Learner Driver Program).  B HAPPY is funded by a grant from the Tasmanian Early Years Foundation.
