Waste Water

On Site Waste Water

More than 50% of the residents of the Municipality are not connected to reticulated sewerage systems. Wastewater from the toilets, bathroom, kitchen and laundry is treated and disposed/reused on-site.

The majority of these properties have septic tanks systems and absorption trenches, however, other systems such as aerated wastewater treatment systems (AWTS) or composting toilets area used. If you are moving into a house that has an on-site disposal system please ask the previous owner questions such as the location of the septic tank and absorption trenches, any info on maintenance procedures or when was the septic tank last pumped out?

Council does not have drainage plans of the exact location of the septic tank or drains for most properties built more than 15 years ago.
