Surveillance

Council environmental health officers monitor food shops throughout the municipality to ensure they are providing food in a safe and hygienic matter. This includes monitoring of cafes, restaurants, takeaways and bakeries as well as school canteens, markets and mobile food vans.

FoodSafetm

FoodSafe is a food handler training program which trains food handlers in various aspects of food hygiene. In order to receive the award each person within the food premises must be trained and the premises must have adequate cleaning schedule in place, must monitor delivery of stock to ensure food is received at the correct temperatures and is suitable quality. Temperature checks must also be carried out daily of all food requiring hot or cold storage.

When eating out or buying takeaway you should look for the FoodSafetm logo.

Food Sampling

Council environmental health officers also take part in food sampling programs. Various foods are chosen and samples collected and analysed for various things such as the presence of food poisoning organisms.
