Public Notice – Intention to Declare Areas (Dog Exercise Area)

Due to community feedback regarding Council’s decision in 2017 to prohibit dogs on Red Ochre Beach from the 1st December to 1st March, Sorell Council is reviewing the dog exercise area restrictions for this beach, as per section 24 of the Dog Control Act 2000.

Council intends to change the access times to Red Ochre Beach as follows:

Red Ochre Beach would be divided in half, with the rocky outcrop acting as the dividing line between the Northern end (known as Blue Lagoon) and the Southern end.

  • From the 1st December to the 1st March between the hours from 10am to 6pm dogs would be prohibited on the Southern end of Red Ochre Beach.
  • From 1st December to the 1st March dogs would be prohibited on the northern end of Red Ochre Beach (locally known as Blue Lagoon Beach).

Sorell Council invites written submissions on the intention to declare these areas. Submissions marked ‘Attention Senior Compliance Officer’ can be sent to Sorell Council via letter or email:

P.O.Box 126

Sorell TAS 7172

Or sorell.council@sorell.tas.gov.au

Submissions must be received by close of business Tuesday 24 July 2018.

ONLY submissions relating to the area specified, Red Ochre Beach, will be accepted.
